What a woman really wants

So the book Men are from Mars Women are from Venus sold flew off the bookshelves when it came out....of course women purchased it hoping to understand the man in their life and hoping the man in their life would read it to understand them.

I can honestly say I did not read the book because I don't think you need to "read" about understanding the opposite sex you just need to watch!

Today we will talk about women and their "subtle" ways of telling you what they want but first we need to explore the complex world of a woman.

Women work ALL the time.  You may not see them doing it...in fact you may see the nap on the couch and ask yourself, "why am I the only one who is picking up dog poop?"  Trust me...she is working because most women do not relax.  Even when they sleep they do not relax.  I cannot speak for all women because that is just crazy....the "x" chromosome is not equal in all women.

I can say this when women are

  • doing the dishes they are thinking about what else needs to be done.
  • doing the laundry they are thinking about what to make for dinner.
  • at their jobs they are thinking of what needs to be picked up at the store on the way home.
  • home they are scheduling their time between soccer practice and PTA.
  •  sleeping they are thinking (dreaming) about everything that needs to be done the next day.
Women's minds just do not stop because the world does not stop.  Let me see if I can explain this so men out there can understand....women work on all cylinders.

So what does a woman want?  This too is also simple.  They want
  • appreciation for what they do (even if you don't quite see it or understand it)
  • thank you on occasion.  You know your clothes you dump on the floor do not end up washed, pressed and hanging in your closet on their own.
  • a break now and then.  Take her (and the kids or get a babysitter) out to dinner.  There is no better relief than to not have to decide what to cook, then prepare dinner and then clean it up.
  • help doing some of the little things.  Unloading the dishwasher is a great thing to do to help the woman in your life.  Just make sure to put the dishes away where they are supposed to go because nothing is worse than when you need a vegetable peeler and you can't find it.
And here's the big one:  They want (need) more time and more energy. One of my favorite lines in a television show is from Desperate Housewives when Tom tells a tired Lynette he will take the kids to the park so she can have a break.  That would have been perfect if Tom hadn't followed up with "go soak in the tub or take a nap" because Lynette reminded him of all the laundry, bills to pay and other chores that she will be "relaxing" doing.

It never ends and although women may blame their man for the endless things that have to be done but it is in a woman's DNA to keep going.  She will not ask for help because she doesn't want to burden you.

If you really want to understand what the woman in your life wants....WATCH!!  You will find many things you can help with if you watch.

Don't forget to:
  • Thank her occasionally for everything she does (even if you don't see her do it)
  • Appreciate your clean clothes hanging in the closet
  • Take a few things off her plate and put it on yours occasionally
Here's a big one that will score big points:
When you see her washing dishes, cooking dinner, doing laundry or any of the other million things that women do.....go up behind her and give her a hug.  Women know that you are "thanking" them for doing what they are doing.  Women know you are appreciating what they do.
Want the spunky woman, fun loving lady, easy going wife back?  You thought I was going to tell you how to do this didn't you.....well the truth is she is gone.  That woman didn't have all the responsibilities this woman has.  That woman didn't juggle the kids, career, the house, the bills, the shopping, the scheduling, the holiday planning, you, etc.  That woman had time and energy to be spunky, fun loving and easy going.

What you can do is ease the burden.  What you can do is appreciate and show it.  What you can do is be understanding that everything she does is for you, you and the kids and for your family.

That's it....in a nutshell.  Stay tuned for what a man really wants.

This year for Christmas if you want to give her the gift of energy Premier Back Rehabilitation Center has gift certificates for Vitamin B12 shots!

Exercising and burning calories

We all know that if we exercise we will burn calories but there has to be more to it, right?

Ever wonder why when you lose weight you have to work harder to continue to lose weight?

Are you aware that the more you weigh the more calories you will burn in a workout?  There are other factors which include intensity of your workout, your metabolism and conditioning level.

For example:  A person weighing 205 pounds running 5 miles per hour (12 minute mile) will burn almost twice as many calories as a person weighing 130 pounds.

This makes sense when you really think about this.  Think about lifting weights; the more resistance you have when lifting weights (the higher the pounds of weight) the "stronger" you become.

When you weigh more you work harder to run that mile which would burn more calories. So what does this mean for you?  Don't "not exercise" because you are heavy.  That is the best time to start.  I hear many people tell me that they are "too fat" to exercise.  We talked last time about the best exercise you can do is the one you will do.  When you are overweight exercising is hard and it may take some trial and error to find what exercise you can enjoy and will continue to do.  Just do it!  (Click HERE if you missed the first blog on picking an exercise).

Let's look at something simple; walking.  Walking is as enjoyable as you make it.  Get a group together and walk.  Walk with your spouse.  Walk with your dog.  Walk alone while listening to music that will get you moving.  (Be careful if you do this....be aware of your surroundings and always walk in a safe area.  Let someone know you are walking, the route you are going and always check in when you are done).

If you are 205 pounds and you walk slowly (2 miles per hour) you will burn 233 calories.  In an earlier blog we talked about 3500 calories = 1 pound.  If you missed it click HERE.  Knowing this that walk you just took you are about half way there to eliminating your 500 calories per day.    Cut about 250 calories from your diet, walk 2 miles per hour and you are there!!  That is a healthy way to lose one pound per week....and it's simple and enjoyable and you won't miss those 250 calories if you just cut out a few things.  (Please read the blog about the simple things you can do to cut calories out of your diet).

When starting out keep it simple so you keep doing it!!  If you need help with energy I highly recommend Vitamin B12 shots.  These are not the quick boosts of energy that you will come down from.  These shots help with evening out your energy.  Buying Vitamin B12 pills are not effective.  If you would like more information please read HERE.

Who need's Vitamin B12 shots?

This is simple....everyone, but I know that won't answer the question appropriately.

Are often "tired?"
Do you find yourself sleeping "restlessly?"
Are you having trouble losing weight?
Do you feel "weak?"
Are you often light headed?
Do you find yourself short of breath?
Are you pregnant?
Are you breast feeding?
Do you suffer from restless leg syndrome?

If you answered yes to any of the above....you are definitely in need of Vitamin B12.
Over time, a deficiency in either B12 or folate can lead to macrocytic anemia, a condition characterized by the production of fewer but larger red blood cells, thus a decreased ability to carry oxygen. Due to the anemia, those affected may be weak, light-headed, and short of breath. A deficiency in B12 can also result in varying degrees of neuropathy or nerve damage that can cause tingling and numbness in the person's hands and feet. In severe cases, mental changes that range from confusion and irritability to dementia may occur. (Lab Tests Online)
According to Lab Tests Online:  The symptoms associated with B12 and folate deficiency are initially subtle and nonspecific. They are related to the resulting macrocytic anemia, nerve involvement, and gastrointestinal changes. People with an early deficiency may be diagnosed before they experience any overt symptoms.

Although a deficiency of Vitamin B12 is rare but can lead to very serious condition:
Diarrhea, Dizziness, Fatigue, weakness, Loss of appetite, Malabsorption, Paleness, Rapid heart rate, Shortness of breath, Sore tongue and mouth, Tingling, numbness, and/or burning in the feet, hands, arms, and legs (with B12), Confusion and Paranoia.

What a simple fix...Vitamin B12 shots.  Taking Vitamin B12 supplements, although is better than nothing, will not give you the dosage that you may require as it is lost through the digestion process.

Joke of the day: Why we are so tired

WHY WE ARE SO TIRED?

For a couple years I've been blaming it on iron deficient blood, lack of vitamins, dieting and a dozen other maladies. I'm overworked that's the real reason I'm so tired. And I have just worked out why!

  • The population of this country is 257 million.
  • Of these 103 million are retired!
  • That leaves 154 million to do the work.
  • Of these 21 million are unemployed.
  • That leaves 133 million to do the work.
  • Then there are 84 million in school!
  • That leaves 49 million to do the work.
  • Of this there are 30 million employed by the federal government.
  • That leaves 19 million to do the work.
  • Then there are a total the 14,800,000 people who work for State and City Government!
  • That leaves 200,000 to do the work.
  • There are 188,000 ill and in hospitals!
  • That leaves 12,000 to do the work.
  • Then there are 11,998 people in Prisons.
  • That leaves just 2 people to do the work.

Dangers of Energy Drinks

It's 2:00 PM and you look at the clock......Three more hours to go until quitting time. But wait, you still have to stop at the grocery store, go by and pick up your dry cleaning and get home in time to make dinner, clean the mess up and get to your child's recital by 7:00 PM.

2:30 PM at your local convenience store gulping down an energy drink.

How is anyone supposed to do this without any help?

Energy..it seems that when you need the most you have the least so we do the easiest route and buy it, from a can, because it says "energy" on it.

What we don't realize is the high-caffeinated drinks can lead to dehydration if you mix it with exercise, according to Dee Rollins, RD., Ph.D of the Baylor Regional Medical Center.

"Effects of Caffeine When Exercising:  Caffeine stimulates urine production, which removes water from the body. If you are already losing water in sweat, losing more in the urine means needing to drink more during exercise."  (http://walking.about.com/od/fluids/a/caffeineenergy.htm)

Avoiding dehydration is simple.  Drink more water!  Need more energy....well that is simple also:  Vitamin B12 shots.

How to make back to school run smoother

Remember when you thought, "I can't wait until the kids go back to school?"

Did you think it would take so much energy from you for the family to get back into a "normal" routine?

WOW!  The first month of school is tough.  Bedtimes, alarm clocks, homework, lunches, buses, etc.  It can be difficult in the beginning.  The first day seems to go off pretty easy...the kids don't want to go back to school but they are excited about the first day.  After that it's like Christmas morning....Couldn't wait to open the presents only to find.....clothes.

If it was "just school" it may be easier for parents to adjust....but it's not.  It's after school activities such as sports, choir, etc.  How did you do it last year?  It seemed so simple.

Here are some steps to hopefully make it easier for you:

  1. Get a calendar!  I know it's difficult but if you take an hour and write everything down on the calendar your life will be easier on those days.  This is also a great activity to do with your children at night.  Bring the calendar out and ask them if anything needs to be added.  After you have added the new activities look to the next week and start planning for those activities.  Make lists for your child(ren) of the tasks they need to do to make the next week run smoothly.  Example:  If there is an activity that you can't get away from work to transport your child than on the list would be for your child to ask their friends if they could "bum a ride."
  2. Down Time:  Until the "excitement" of going back to school stops you need down time in the evening...not only for them but for you.  A half hour before (the earliest) bedtime needs to be quiet time.  Avoid anything that would stimulate their minds....this could be loud music, Monday night football, etc.  This is a great time to start bath time....sorry teenagers:  shower time.  You need this as much as they need this!!!
  3. Set the alarm clock a half hour earlier than the time the child(ren) need to wake up.  This will give you some much needed peace and quiet before the day begins.  Grab a cup of coffee and go sit outside and relax.
  4. Speak in calm tones.  I know this is difficult when one of your children keeps hitting the snooze button and is going to be late but how you start your day will be how your day goes.  Simply whisper in their ear, "time to get up or time to lose your........... you choose."  Every child has something that is not worth losing for five more minutes of sleep.  Very important to follow through if they don't get up!!
  5. Allow them 30 minutes of "unwinding" after school.  I grew up in a single parent home so my mother was always working when I got home from school.  I walked in the door and knew I had 1 1/2 hours till she got home.  Homework was much easier to do after I didn't do anything for awhile.  If your child(ren) are in sports and they don't get home until dinner time....still give them time to unwind.  Homework is easier to tackle and complete if they don't have the day's events running through their head.
For your children to be healthy YOU MUST BE HEALTHY!!!  Children learn what they live.  Take care of yourself, remain calm, be organized (but still allow for some spontaneity) and the first weeks back to school will be great.

Little things to keep you healthy: Don't drink your Calories

Don't let Liquid Calories do this to you
Ya, ya, ya....we hear this all the time.  To lose weight or not to gain weight don't drink your Calories.

Let's focus on the obvious first:  Weight gain.  Being overweight will harm your health in many aspects:  Bones, joints, heart...just to name a few.

The consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has been linked to rising rates of obesity in the United States. The standard explanation is that energy-containing liquids are less satiating than are solid foods. However, purely physiologic mechanisms do not fully account for the proposed links between liquid sugar energy and body weight change.  (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
We just don't realize how many calories come from what you drink.....unless you pay attention.  Sugars in liquid form are absorbed rapidly into our bodies.  When this happens:  Newton said it best:  For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, your body will react in many ways including: weight gain, diabetes, heart disease and some research says; even cancer.

"A nine-year study followed older adults who drank diet soda daily. The results showed a 48 percent higher risk of stroke, heart attack and death, even after adjusting for other risk factors. Arguably, this study hasn't been published in a peer-review journal and may have other confounding factors. However, as a nutritionist who has observed patterns of America's intake of artificial sweeteners, I've seen their long-term effects firsthand. Research on these sugar substitutes connects diet soda consumption to metabolic syndrome, chronic kidney disease, and Type 2 Diabetes."  (Carrie Wiatt, M.S., Diabetic Connect)
We all know that weight gain can lead to heart disease and high sugar intake can lead to Diabetes.  The question is this:  Is your health worth replacing your high sugar liquid calories with water?  I am lucky I never got "addicted" to soda but I have friends who are.  Take it one day at a time:  Let's face it.....water has been, will always be the best choice to drink.  To begin with replace one soda, energy drink, etc. with water for one week and I bet you won't even notice losing that sugary drink.  Keep going and each week replace another.  By the time you have replaced all sugary drinks with water I bet you won't even miss them.

Don't get your energy from liquid calories.  Vitamin B12 shots work so much better and are so much healthier for you!!

First Line Therapy......Changing your life, bad habits and being a better YOU!

Ever wanted to make some changes in your life and just never did or never followed through?  Eat healthier, exercise more, reduce stress...the list goes on and on.  Most people fail because they are in it alone.  Most people don't have the "energy" to make any changes.  And....I hate to say this but our family and friends will tend to "discourage" you because they don't have the energy to change.

Does this sound familiar:  First day....Ahh this is easy, second day, ahhh this is easy...by the time the third day on change becomes a "chore."

Failure of knowing is one of the biggest causes when a person fails at change.  We KNOW we have to eat better and exercise to lose weight, we HEAR and SEE all the different ways to do this but we don't really KNOW.  How is a person supposed to make an informed decision if you don't know.

I have learned in life you don't have to know...you have to learn.  You can sit down at the computer and do all the research yourself OR you can go to someone you trust who already KNOWS.  Be careful of this.....your friend who ate only carrots and lost weight does not KNOW what YOU need to lose weight.
  • You need to find professionals that are invested in YOU!
  • You need to find professionals that use the most current scientific research.
  • You need to find professionals that their concepts are supported by RECENT controlled clinical studies.
I love the saying "why re-invent the wheel" but I'm going to use this in a different concept here...why buy a wheel from someone who builds boxes?  If you TRULY want to change you find the professionals who want the same things for you.  You want the PROFESSIONAL guidance of YOUR health care provider.

Do you often feel tired or have a lack of energy?
Do you have difficulty concentrating?
Are you easily irritated or feel moody?
Do you have trouble sleeping?
Do you wake up feeling unrefreshed?
Do you feel bloated or gain weight easily?
Do you have digestive or intestinal discomfort?
Do you have occasional mild headaches?
Do you feel like you're not healthy as other people your age?

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, than a SIMPLE program could help you feel better and have more energy in JUST 10 DAYS!!!

Just answering YES to any of these questions is the FIRST step in changing.  NOW pick up the phone and call Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, P.C. at 719-544-1161 and meet with the PROFESSIONALS that want your sucess as much as you do.  Free Consultations so you meet with REAL PROFESSIONALS face to face (no internet search here) and together you decide what the best approach for you is (no order this cd today and change your life).  At Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, P. My Vitamin B12 Shots

I did it.  I posted on facebook last Friday about taking my vitamin B12 shot so it's been a few days:

Anyone who knows me is saying, "Man, Rhonda got a shot that is going to give her more energy.....watch out world."  I have to admit, when I first did this I was worried about "bouncing" off the walls more that I already do.  Let's face it, energy is not really what I lack.

I want to begin by telling you....I hate shots.  I think I've said this before haven't I?  This one, wasn't anything like I thought it would be.  Hating shots I thought it would be terrible, but, honestly it isn't bad.

So, I get past the shot.  Alright, waiting for the "bouncing off the walls" and really started to feel sorry for my husband.  I have to say.....it feels "different."  Yesterday I was asked how I felt after my first shot (okay I really need to start calling this an injection because it is nothing like the "shot" I am so used to).  My response.....different.

Different how?
My energy level is solid.  I don't have "more" energy but I have a steady feeling of "feeling good."  I don't feel like I need a nap at 2:00 PM.

Another thing, and again let's face it I am a crazy person and go and go and go....and normally I am needing to go to bed around 9:00 PM.  Now, I will be up doing things and realize it's after 10 PM and I'm not "going to drop."

I sleep like a baby.  I have never had problem sleeping, an earthquake couldn't wake me up.  This sleep is different...when I wake I feel rested.  The best way to describe it is I smooth through the night.  I don't sleep "hard,"  I sleep well....and "well" really isn't a good word to describe it but it is a great nights' sleep.

It's been five days...going for my second round Friday.  It's hard to describe but I feel a more "even" feeling throughout the day.  I don't stop and say, I need a nap, I need a break or I'm done for the day.

I want to also add that I recently "fractured multiple ribs" and although the B12 doesn't help with the pain it sure has made the pain easier to live with.

Stay tuned for more on my journey!

Got Energy? Need to feel better?

I have to admit....I just thought Vitamin B12 was just for an "energy boost."  What the heck was the big deal anyway....I'll just drink some 5 hour energy, drink an "energy" drink, have another cup of coffee, heck, if I need to I'll just go to my local Vitamin Store and buy some Vitamin B12.

Who knew that the multivitamin I bought in the store "just wasn't strong enough."  Maybe that is why I quit taking them and quit "wasting my money."

So I take to the internet and do some research.  Shots or Pills from a Doctor?  I learn that most Doctor's prefer the shot over the pill as the dosage does not need to be as high if given directly into the bloodstream.  I also learned that the stomach reduces the absorption during the digestive process according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Hmmmmm....bought it at the store, lower dose than I needed AND I lost some of it because of the digestive process.  No wonder I didn't stick with it and to be honest with you I probably have some left in the bottle.

According to the Mayo Clinic there are agencies, such as John Hopkins University, that are doing research on the affects Vitamin B12 has on Alzheimer's, dementia, breast cancer, heart disease and high cholesterol. Other areas that Vitamin B12 may benefit is male infertility, asthma, Parkinson's disease and sickle cell disease.

Okay, I have done my research....Vitamin B12 needs to be administered by a Doctor (not the check out lady at WalMart), should be in the form of an injection and does so much more than "gives me energy."

Good thing Premier Back and Rehabilitation Center, PC offers this.  Find them on Facebook
