What a woman really wants

So the book Men are from Mars Women are from Venus sold flew off the bookshelves when it came out....of course women purchased it hoping to understand the man in their life and hoping the man in their life would read it to understand them.

I can honestly say I did not read the book because I don't think you need to "read" about understanding the opposite sex you just need to watch!

Today we will talk about women and their "subtle" ways of telling you what they want but first we need to explore the complex world of a woman.

Women work ALL the time.  You may not see them doing it...in fact you may see the nap on the couch and ask yourself, "why am I the only one who is picking up dog poop?"  Trust me...she is working because most women do not relax.  Even when they sleep they do not relax.  I cannot speak for all women because that is just crazy....the "x" chromosome is not equal in all women.

I can say this when women are

  • doing the dishes they are thinking about what else needs to be done.
  • doing the laundry they are thinking about what to make for dinner.
  • at their jobs they are thinking of what needs to be picked up at the store on the way home.
  • home they are scheduling their time between soccer practice and PTA.
  •  sleeping they are thinking (dreaming) about everything that needs to be done the next day.
Women's minds just do not stop because the world does not stop.  Let me see if I can explain this so men out there can understand....women work on all cylinders.

So what does a woman want?  This too is also simple.  They want
  • appreciation for what they do (even if you don't quite see it or understand it)
  • thank you on occasion.  You know your clothes you dump on the floor do not end up washed, pressed and hanging in your closet on their own.
  • a break now and then.  Take her (and the kids or get a babysitter) out to dinner.  There is no better relief than to not have to decide what to cook, then prepare dinner and then clean it up.
  • help doing some of the little things.  Unloading the dishwasher is a great thing to do to help the woman in your life.  Just make sure to put the dishes away where they are supposed to go because nothing is worse than when you need a vegetable peeler and you can't find it.
And here's the big one:  They want (need) more time and more energy. One of my favorite lines in a television show is from Desperate Housewives when Tom tells a tired Lynette he will take the kids to the park so she can have a break.  That would have been perfect if Tom hadn't followed up with "go soak in the tub or take a nap" because Lynette reminded him of all the laundry, bills to pay and other chores that she will be "relaxing" doing.

It never ends and although women may blame their man for the endless things that have to be done but it is in a woman's DNA to keep going.  She will not ask for help because she doesn't want to burden you.

If you really want to understand what the woman in your life wants....WATCH!!  You will find many things you can help with if you watch.

Don't forget to:
  • Thank her occasionally for everything she does (even if you don't see her do it)
  • Appreciate your clean clothes hanging in the closet
  • Take a few things off her plate and put it on yours occasionally
Here's a big one that will score big points:
When you see her washing dishes, cooking dinner, doing laundry or any of the other million things that women do.....go up behind her and give her a hug.  Women know that you are "thanking" them for doing what they are doing.  Women know you are appreciating what they do.
Want the spunky woman, fun loving lady, easy going wife back?  You thought I was going to tell you how to do this didn't you.....well the truth is she is gone.  That woman didn't have all the responsibilities this woman has.  That woman didn't juggle the kids, career, the house, the bills, the shopping, the scheduling, the holiday planning, you, etc.  That woman had time and energy to be spunky, fun loving and easy going.

What you can do is ease the burden.  What you can do is appreciate and show it.  What you can do is be understanding that everything she does is for you, you and the kids and for your family.

That's it....in a nutshell.  Stay tuned for what a man really wants.

What is Bone Density and who should have it?

Bone Density Testing

This information is taken directly from two Doctors about this situation.  Thank you for the wonderful information!  No one could say it better so I didn't even try.

According to Melissa Stoppler, MD: (taken directly from: MedicineNet.com)
In premenopausal women, estrogen produced in the body maintains bone density. Following the onset of menopause, bone loss increases each year and can result in a total loss of 25%-30% of bone density in the first five to ten years after menopause. Your doctor can help you decide when and if you need a bone density test. In general, this testing is recommended for women 65 and older along with younger postmenopausal women who have further risk factors for osteoporosis, including:A history of bone fractures as an adult or having a close relative with a history of bone fractures
  • Weight loss or low body weight; small-boned body frame
  • Early menopause or late onset of menstrual periods
  • Physical inactivity
  • Low estrogen levels

This information is taken directly from Dr. Sutton and his website

How To Prepare
Bone density tests are easy, fast and painless. Virtually no preparation is needed.

What To Expect
Bone density tests are usually done on bones that are most likely to break because of osteoporosis, including:

Lower spine bones (lumbar vertebrae)
The narrow neck of your thigh bone (femur) where it adjoins your hip
Bones in your wrist and forearm

Bone density can be measured using either a central device or a peripheral device.

Central device. A central device is a large machine on which you lie down during bone density testing. The equipment measures your bone density at your hip or spine through a test called a dual energy X-ray absorptiometry scan, or DXA scan. A DXA scan offers very precise results and is the preferred test for diagnosing osteoporosis.
During the test, you lie on a padded platform for a few minutes while an imager — a mechanical arm-like device — passes over your body. It won't touch you. The test does, however, emit radiation, though your exposure during a bone density test is commonly about one-tenth of the amount emitted during a chest X-ray. The test usually takes five to 10 minutes to complete.
Peripheral device. A peripheral device is a small, portable machine that measures bone density on the periphery of your skeleton, such as in your finger, wrist or heel. Peripheral devices are often found in pharmacies and are considerably less expensive than are tests done on central devices.
Because bone density can vary from one location in your body to another, a measurement taken at your heel usually isn't as accurate a predictor of fracture risk as is a measurement taken at your spine or hip. That's why, if your test on a peripheral device is positive, your doctor might recommend a DXA scan at your spine or hip to confirm your diagnosis.

Results
The results from a bone density test can let you know how your fracture risk compares with that of other people of your age, sex and other similar characteristics.

Your bone density test results are reported in two numbers: T-score and Z-score.

T-score: Bone density score
Your T-score is your bone density compared with what is normally expected in a healthy young adult of your sex. Your T-score is the number of units — standard deviations (SD) — that your bone density is above or below the average.
T-score What your score means
Above -1 Your bone density is considered normal.
Between -1 and -2.5 Your score is a sign of osteopenia, a condition in which bone density is below normal and may lead to osteoporosis.
Below -2.5 Your bone density indicates you have osteoporosis.

Keep in mind that these scores apply mostly to white postmenopausal women, who tend to have lower bone density as compared with other racial groups and men. Interpretations may vary if you're a woman of color or a man.

Z-score
Your Z-score is the number of standard deviations above or below what's normally expected for someone of your age, sex, weight, and ethnic or racial origin. This is helpful because it may suggest you have a secondary form of osteoporosis through which something other than aging is causing abnormal bone loss.

A Z-score less than -1.5 might indicate these other factors are to blame. Your doctor would then try to determine if there's any underlying cause for the low bone mass other than aging or menopause, which are expected causes of bone loss. If your doctor can identify a cause, that condition can often be treated and the bone loss slowed or stopped.

Ways to feel better: Believe in yourself

If you can see it, you can do it!  Click this video and come back and read.

The truth is if we don't believe in ourselves no one else will.  If you believe you are worthless you will be worth less.  You define your worth...and you are priceless.

Why are we our own worst enemy?  Alison Finch says it best:

  1. Feeling worthless is a safe option because it reduces the amount of pain you suffer when things go wrong. If you already know that you're no good and that no one will fall in love with you, or give you a job, or even care enough to listen to you, then when a rejection wings its way towards you - which it certainly will because it happens to all of us - then you're better prepared than most. You can say: "Ah ha, you can't ruin my life because I already knew this was going to happen; I already knew that you didn't really love me/want me/value me!"
  1. Feeling worthless is an easy option; if you're worthless there's no need to try to do well and succeed in the things that matter to you because there is simply no point. Also, if you act as if your opinions and your desires are all worthless then people leave you alone. If you say you have no remarkable skills or talents then there is no need to apply them. If you say that you are a useless, hopeless nobody then people will expect far less from you. And just maybe you could get lots of sympathy and perhaps even another person (on a white horse in shining armour) coming to your rescue to sort your life out for you.
What does this mean for you?  It means it's time to determine you worthMORE not worthLESS. Like the song says you need to say to yourself:  "I believe I can fly."

“The year you were born marks only your entry into the world. Other years where you prove your worth, they are the ones worth celebrating.
”
Jarod Kintz, This Book Title is Invisible
What you do today, how you feel about yourself will change your life.  Believe you can touch the sky, if you believe it; there's nothing to it.  Get out of your own way and spread your wings!!!

Ways to feel better: Part 2

"Judge a person by their questions, rather than their answers." ~Voltaire

One of my favorite quotes but you have to read it a second time to really "get it."

Judging other on how they answer or "view" the world is one of the most destructive things we do to ourselves.

Let me ask you a few questions:
Question 1:
If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Question 2:
It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts.
Here are the facts about the three candidates.

Candidate A:
Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 Martinis a day.
Candidate B:
He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.
Candidate C:
He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never committed adultery.

Which of these candidates would be our choice?

What are your answers?

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Candidate B is Winston Churchill.
Candidate C is Adolf Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question:
If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone.

Remember:

Amateurs ... Built the ark.
Professionals ... Built the Titanic

I read this one day, and I apologize for not knowing who put this out first, and it changed how I viewed things.  How would you feel if someone judged you by your answers to these questions?  They are never as they seem, are they?  This is a very powerful song that you should listen VERY carefully to.....I hope it changes your life as it did min.

Want to feel better?  Change how you judge others.

Falls can kill

We all love the saying, "I've fallen and I can't get up" but do we understand what falling means to a person.

According to Dr. Sutton:
  • Falls are the leading cause of injury in older adults and this can lead to more that 250,000 hip fractures A YEAR!  These fractures result in a 35% mortality rate within the FIRST YEAR of injury.
  • 40% of the American population over the age of 62 will experience a fall.  50% of senior citizens fall within the first year of injury.
  • 50% of older Americans that are hospitalized for fall-related injuries are discharged to NURSING HOMES.
I don't know about you but this is scary.  We hear about all these diseases; cancer, heart conditions, stroke, etc. that hurt us but falling?

What Causes Dizziness & Loss of Balance? (Vestibular Disorders)
According to Dr. Sutton:

In most cases, balance problems originate within three systems integrated by the brain: the inner ears; eyes; and our muscles, joints and nerves. The brain processes this information and directs instructions back to our bodies enabling us to walk, turn, and bend easily. If one, or any combination, of these systems develops a problem, then dizziness or a loss of balance will usually occur. Even a sense of being unsteady is a sign that a balance evaluation is needed.
prevent deadly falls

What Can Be Done to Help? (Vestibular Therapy)
In a safe, controlled setting, our clinic will use the latest technology to test your balance and mobility skills. The test is simple, totally painless and non-invasive. If the results reveal a problem, I will personally discuss the findings with you and how we may be able to help you. If you do have a problem that we can help with and you choose to participate in our treatment program, then we will design a training program customized to meet each patient's individual needs.

So....what can you do?  You can take preventative measures!!  Call Premier Back Rehabilitation Center to schedule a Balance evaluation.  They use the latest techniques and tests.

Ways to feel better; Part 1

How does a person feel better about themselves?

I love the saying "Don't let negative rent space in your head."

With that being said one way to feel better about yourself is to let the negative go.  When we hold negative things in more than just our psychological self suffers or health suffers also.  One thing I like to do is every morning think about something positive.  If you remind yourself before your day starts that there are positive things in your life you will begin the day better.

When something bad happens....I know it's a cliche but take a few deep breaths.  A positive nothing is better than a negative anything so breathe.  Once you have a chance to breath, and not react, you have a chance to think about the situation.  Now you have three choices:  If you can change it, than change it.  If you can fix it, than fix it.  If you can't do either let it go...don't let it rent space in your head.  I know it's easier said than done but once you practice this it does get better.

When you forget something, you break something, you don't do something.....let it go.  That second, that minute will never come back to you...all you do is use up future seconds, minutes hours and days worrying about what you cannot change.

Always move forward.  If you get off course than detour back to where you need to be.  It's like a diet....you may slip and have a candy bar but if you get back on track than it was a pleasant detour on your diet.  If you continue down the same road and eat more candy bars than you will get lost.

Life has a way of getting in the way of our plans.  We get an extra $200.00 bonus out of the blue and our transmission goes out in the car.  We get a day off and plan on enjoying it by reading and doing some light laundry and the kitchen floods and you spend the day cleaning the mess up and fixing the leak.  It happens.  Accept what life throws at you and move on.

Negative is part of a battery, not an attitude.  Love life, embrace it's imperfections and move forward because what you left behind will only haunt you if you let it.

Joke of the day: Why we are so tired

WHY WE ARE SO TIRED?

For a couple years I've been blaming it on iron deficient blood, lack of vitamins, dieting and a dozen other maladies. I'm overworked that's the real reason I'm so tired. And I have just worked out why!

  • The population of this country is 257 million.
  • Of these 103 million are retired!
  • That leaves 154 million to do the work.
  • Of these 21 million are unemployed.
  • That leaves 133 million to do the work.
  • Then there are 84 million in school!
  • That leaves 49 million to do the work.
  • Of this there are 30 million employed by the federal government.
  • That leaves 19 million to do the work.
  • Then there are a total the 14,800,000 people who work for State and City Government!
  • That leaves 200,000 to do the work.
  • There are 188,000 ill and in hospitals!
  • That leaves 12,000 to do the work.
  • Then there are 11,998 people in Prisons.
  • That leaves just 2 people to do the work.

Dangers of Energy Drinks

It's 2:00 PM and you look at the clock......Three more hours to go until quitting time. But wait, you still have to stop at the grocery store, go by and pick up your dry cleaning and get home in time to make dinner, clean the mess up and get to your child's recital by 7:00 PM.

2:30 PM at your local convenience store gulping down an energy drink.

How is anyone supposed to do this without any help?

Energy..it seems that when you need the most you have the least so we do the easiest route and buy it, from a can, because it says "energy" on it.

What we don't realize is the high-caffeinated drinks can lead to dehydration if you mix it with exercise, according to Dee Rollins, RD., Ph.D of the Baylor Regional Medical Center.

"Effects of Caffeine When Exercising:  Caffeine stimulates urine production, which removes water from the body. If you are already losing water in sweat, losing more in the urine means needing to drink more during exercise."  (http://walking.about.com/od/fluids/a/caffeineenergy.htm)

Avoiding dehydration is simple.  Drink more water!  Need more energy....well that is simple also:  Vitamin B12 shots.

Little things people do that harm your health...not sleeping

Why is it that we, as humans, KNOW we need to get sleep to be healthy...yet we don't.

Ever watch a cat or dog stay up for hours when they are tired?  No.  They sleep when they need to sleep.  This is a great video if you need to learn how to sleep.

According to WebMD there are 10 things YOU should HATE about "lack of sleep."

  1. Accidents.  We all know what can happen when you are driving and fall asleep...people die.  Maybe what you didn't know was "sleep deprivation was a factor in some of the biggest disasters in recent history: the 1979 nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, the massive Exxon Valdez oil spill, the 1986 nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl, and others."
  2. Lack of sleep "dumbs you down."  (WebMD's words not mine):  Sleep helps you think so lack of sleep; "First, it impairs attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning, and problem solving. This makes it more difficult to learn efficiently.Second, during the night, various sleep cycles play a role in“consolidating” memories in the mind. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to remember what you learned and experienced during the day."
  3. Causes serious health issues: "Sleep disorders and chronic sleep loss can put you at risk for:
    Heart disease
    Heart attack
    Heart failure
    Irregular heartbeat
    High blood pressure
    Stroke
    Diabetes
According to some estimates, 90% of people with insomnia -- a sleep disorder characterized by trouble falling and staying asleep -- also have another health condition."
  4. No sleep, no sex drive:  "Sleep specialists say that sleep-deprived men and women report lower libidos and less interest in sex. Depleted energy, sleepiness, and increased tension may be largely to blame."
  5. Depression:  "Insomnia and depression feed on each other. Sleep loss often aggravates the symptoms of depression, and depression can make it more difficult to fall asleep. On the positive side, treating sleep problems can help depression and its symptoms, and vice versa."
  6. Ages your skin:  "When you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol. In excess amounts, cortisol can break down skin collagen, the protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic."
  7. Where did I put my.......?  Forgetfulness:  "In 2009, American and French researchers determined that brain events called“sharp wave ripples” are responsible for consolidating memory. The ripples also transfer learned information from the hippocampus to the neocortex of the brain, where long-term memories are stored. Sharp wave ripples occur mostly during the deepest levels of sleep."
  8. Weight Gain:  "According to a 2004 study, people who sleep less than six hours a day were almost 30 percent more likely to become obese than those who slept seven to nine hours.  Recent research has focused on the link between sleep and the peptides that regulate appetite. 'Ghrelin stimulates hunger and leptin signals satiety to the brain and suppresses appetite,' says Siebern. Shortened sleep time is associated with decreases in leptin and elevations in ghrelin.”
  9. May increase death:  "In the “Whitehall II Study,” British researchers looked at how sleep patterns affected the mortality of more than 10,000 British civil servants over two decades. The results, published in 2007, showed that those who had cut their sleep from seven to five hours or fewer a night nearly doubled their risk of death from all causes. In particular, lack of sleep doubled the risk of death from cardiovascular disease."
  10. Impairs Judgement:  "Sleep-deprived people seem to be especially prone to poor judgment when it comes to assessing what lack of sleep is doing to them. In our increasingly fast-paced world, functioning on less sleep has become a kind of badge of honor. But sleep specialists say if you think you’re doing fine on less sleep, you’re probably wrong. And if you work in a profession where it’s important to be able to judge your level of functioning, this can be a big problem."
This is just an overview on what the affects of "lack of sleep" can cause.  To read in more detail visit WebMD.

Things that harm your health....not relaxing

We live in a world that is moving so fast and we feel like we have to keep up.  Technology has evolved so much that our "down time" is spent on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and other social media sites.  If we aren't in front of the computer we are in front of the TV, outside working or playing but none of these will help you relax.

To truly relax you have to do nothing.  Our bodies AND our brains need this down time.  You don't have to spend hours doing this but a few minutes a day will change your life and how to view your life.

We all know how to relax on a beach so take a good look at this picture.....close your eyes.  Now imagine yourself lying on the beach.  Take a few moments and enjoy the sun, the sand and the sound of the ocean.  This is a great video to watch and listen to while you are relaxing.

If you would like to learn more relaxing techniques the Mayo Clinic has some great ways to relax.

Understanding Degenerative Disc Disease

Pain in the neck has never impacted so much.  Although Degenerative Disc Disease is not technically a "disease" it is placed in this category because of the changes that it causes your spinal discs go through as you age.  Degenerative Disc Disease is most common in your lower back (lumbar region) and your neck (cervical region).

Spinal Discs are part of your spine.  They are soft compressible discs that separate the bones (vertebrae) that make up your spine.  They are to your spine as shocks are to your car:  They absorb the shock for the spine allowing it to flex, bend and twist.

Causes for disc damage are:

  1. Osteoarthritis:  which is the breakdown of the tissue that protects and cushions your joints.
  2. Herniated disc, an abnormal bulge or breaking open of a spinal disc.
  3. Spinal stenosis, the narrowing of the spinal can (the open space in which houses your spinal cord).
There are many causes for Degenerative Disc Disease that come from age to sudden injury.
As we age our spinal discs break down which can lead to loss of fluid in your discs.  This will reduce the ability for your discs to absorb shocks as well by making the discs less flexible.

Tiny tears or cracks in the outer layer of the disc causes the disc to break open.  Inside each disc there is jellylike material that is forced out through the tears or cracks which cause the disc to bulge, break open or break into fragments.  People who smoke, do heavy physical work or are more likely to have symptoms of Degenerative Disc Disease.

I have a extruded herniated disc at C6, C6, C7 (For those who don't remember C is for Cervical region) that was caused by the sudden injury of a car accident.  This particular injury is when the "jellylike" material is forced out of the disc.  I did not have any pain for the first three weeks and then it was like putting your sweet child to bed one night to have them wake up as a teenager.  It caused extreme pain, numbness or tingling in my right fingers that lead to the right hand and eventually to the entire arm.

Symptoms are different for different people.  Some of the same injuries will cause different degrees of pain.  If the cervical region is affected than will, more often than not, affect the harm.  When the lumbar region is affected than the pain may be in the back, buttock or leg.

I know that some days I would not experience any pain but numbness or tingling was extreme.  Other days it would be the opposite.  If I slept a certain way it was worse or if I turned my neck suddenly it would cause symptoms.  I never knew what activity or movement would cause what symptom as it never made any sense to me.

Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, PC can help you with these type of injuries.  It is essential that you get to a Doctor with the latest technology to discover these injuries as soon as possible.  Don't waste months on treatments that won't help.  Get your answers ASAP!

Understanding Joint Pain

  • Joints play a large part in your movement.
  • Joints provide support you while moving.
  • Joints are the connections between your bones.

There are many reasons that would cause joint pain:

  1. Osteoarthritis:  Considered the "wear and tear" arthritis.  This happens when you have a previous injury, obesity and age.  Osteoarthritis can affect any joints including the hand, wrist, neck, back, knee and hips.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis:  Chronic disease, which means long-term.  Often referred to as RA and symptoms may come and go and each person is affected differently.  Joints become inflamed, which is the body's natural response to infection or other threats, but with RA inflammation can happen for unknown reasons.
  3. Bursitis:  Bursa is a sac filled with lubricating fluid that is located between tissues such as bone, muscle, tendons and skin that decreases rubbing, friction and irritation.  Bursitis is the inflammation or irritation of the Bursa.
  4. Gout:  Type of arthritis that causes a sudden burning pain, stiffness and swelling in a joint.  The most common is the big toe.  Gout is most common in men.
Joint pain can range from irritating to debilitating and can go away in a few weeks or lasts for several months.

Treatment for joint pain range from medication to physical therapy but it is essential to know what is causing your joint pain, what type of joint pain are you experiencing and what is the best treatment for your situation.

If you are unsure what is causing your joint pain you need to speak with your Doctor.  If you know and your treatment is not working you need to get a second opinion.

If you are in Southern Colorado and are experience joint pain I highly recommend Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, PC.  Visit their website to learn more about them.  Please share your story on your joint pain and how you treat it.

Do I have a cold or allergies?

Runny nose.......
Cough......
Congestion.......

Which is it........a cold?  Or is it Allergies?

It's difficult to tell.

Colds are caused by a virus:  When one of these viruses gets into your body, your immune system attacks it. Some of the effects of this immune response are the classic symptoms of a cold, such as congestion and coughing.

Allergies are caused by an over active immune system.:  For some reason, your body mistakes harmless substances -- such as dust or pollen -- for germs and attacks them. Your body releases chemicals such as histamine, just as it does when fighting a cold. This can cause swelling in your nasal passages, a runny nose, coughing, and sneezing. Allergies are not contagious, although some people may inherit a tendency to develop them.

information provided by WebMD

Here's the problem.....they pretty much have the same symptoms but the treatment is not the same.  You cannot take cold medicine to relieve allergy symptoms and vice versa.

So what can you do for Allergies?  There is a treatment, Subcutaneous Immunotherapy, that requires you to get weekly shots for THREE years.  Maybe this is why only about 40% of patients ever complete this treatment.  (Dr. Sutton Premier Back Rehabilitation Center)

Luckily there is an alternative to WEEKLY shots:  Sublingual Immunotherapy:  Immunotherapy treats the cause of allergies by giving small doses of what a person is allergic to, which increases “immunity” or tolerance to the allergen and reduces the allergic symptoms. Unlike SCIT – Subcutaneous Immunotherapy, which is given as shots, sublingual immunotherapy is given as drops under the tongue.

How it works:  The first step is to confirm allergies through allergy testing. Then a vial of drops is prepared for the patient. The patient takes drops under the tongue daily. During the first two months, called the “escalation phase,” the dosage is gradually increased. After that, in the “maintenance phase,” the patient takes the same dose of drops each day.

Here is the best part of Sublingual Immunotherapy (drops) vs. Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (shots) and that is the drops cost about $1600.00 LESS per year!!!

Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, PC located in Pueblo Colorado has these shots available.  Like them on Facebook.

The Pretty One: A feel good story

No matter what your situation is, no energy, can't sleep, feel tired all the time, allergies......you will always be the "Pretty One" to us.  Premier Back Rehabilitation Center, PC values each and every client and treats them as valuable as this little boys does his new puppy.

This was the last litter of puppies we were going to allow our Cocker Spaniel to have. It had been a very long night for me. Precious, our only black cocker, was having a very difficult time with the delivery of her puppies.

I laid on the floor beside her large four-foot square cage, watching her every movement. Watching and waiting just in case we had to rush her to the veterinarian.

After six hours the puppies started to appear. The first born was a black and white party dog. The second and third puppies were tan and brown in color. The fourth and fifth were also spotted black and white. "One, two, three, four, five," I counted to myself as I walked down the hallway to wake up Judy and tell her that everything was fine. As we walked back down the hallway and into the spare bedroom, I noticed a sixth puppy had been born and was now laying all by itself over to the side of the cage. I picked up the small puppy and laid it on top of the
large pile of puppies, who were whining and trying nurse on the mother.

Instantly Precious pushed the small puppy away from rest of the group and refused to recognize it as a member of her family.

"Something's wrong," said Judy.

I reached over and picked up the puppy. My heart sank inside my chest when I saw the little puppy was hare-lipped and could not close its little mouth. We had gone through this once before last year with another one of our cockers. That experience like to have killed me when the puppy died and I had to bury it. If there was any way to save this animal I was going to give it my best shot.

All the puppies born that night, with the exception of the small hare-lipped pup, were very valuable because of their unusual coloring. Most would bring between five to seven hundred dollars each. The next day I took the puppy to the vet. I was told nothing could be done unless we were willing to spend about a thousand dollars to try and correct the defect. He told us that the puppy would die mainly because it could not suckle.

After returning home Judy and I decided that we could not afford to spend that kind of money without getting some type of assurances from the vet that the puppy had a chance to live. However, that did not stop me from purchasing a syringe and feeding the puppy by hand. Which I did very day and night, every two hours, for more than ten days.

The fifth week I placed an ad in the newspaper, and within a week we had taken deposits on all of the pups, except the one with the deformity. The little guy had learned to eat on his own as long as it was soft canned food.

Late that afternoon I had gone to the store to pick up a few groceries. Upon returning I happened to see the old retired school teacher, who lived across the street from us, waving at me. She had read in the paper that we had puppies for sale and was wondering if she might buy one from us for her grandson. I told her all the puppies had been sold, but I would keep my eyes open for anyone else who might have a cocker spaniel for sale. I also mentioned we never kept a deposit should someone change their mind, and if so I would let her know. Within days all but one of the puppies had been picked up by their new owners. This left me with
one brown and tan cocker as well as the smaller hare-lipped puppy.

Two days passed without me hearing anything from the gentleman, who had placed a deposit on the tan and brown pup. So I telephoned the school teacher and told her I had one puppy left and that she was welcome to come and look at it. She advised me that she was going to pick up her grandson and would come over at about eight o'clock that evening. Judy and I were eating supper when we heard a knock on the front door. When I opened the door, the man, who had placed a $100 deposit on the dog, was standing there. We walked inside where I filled out the paperwork, he paid me the balance of the money, and I handed him the puppy.

Judy and I did not know what to do or say if the teacher showed up with her grandson. Sure enough at exactly eight o'clock the doorbell rang. I opened the door, and there was the school teacher with her grandson standing behind her. I explained to her the man had come for the puppy just an hour before, and there were no puppies left.

"I'm sorry, Jeffery. They sold all the puppies," she told her grandson.

Just at that moment, the small puppy left in the bedroom began to yelp.

"My puppy! My puppy!" yelled the little boy as he ran out from behind his grandmother.

I just about fell over when I saw the small child was hare-lipped. The boy ran past me as fast as he could, down the hallway to where the puppy was still yelping.
When the three of us made it to the bedroom, the small boy was holding the puppy in his arms. He looked up at his grandmother and said, "Look Grandma. They sold all the puppies except the pretty one, and he looks just like me."

Well, old Grandma wasn't the only one with tears in her eyes that day. Judy and I stood there, not knowing what to do.

"Is this puppy for sale?" asked the school teacher.

"My grandma told me these kind of puppies are real expensive and that I have to take real good care of it," said the little boy, who was now hugging the puppy.

"Yes, ma'am. This puppy is for sale."

The lady opened her purse, and I could see several one-hundred dollar bills sticking out of her wallet. I reached over and pushed her hand back down into her purse so that she would not pull her wallet out.

"How much do you think this puppy is worth?" I asked the boy.

"About a dollar?" He replied.

"No. This puppy is very, very expensive... More than a dollar," I told him.

"I'm afraid so." Said his grandmother.

The boy stood there pressing the small puppy against his cheek.

"We could not possibly take less than two dollars for this puppy," Judy said, squeezing my hand. "Like you said, "It's the pretty one." She continued.

The school teacher took out two dollars and handed it to the young boy.

"It's your dog now, Jeffery. You pay the man."

I think it must be a wonderful feeling for any young person to look at their selves into the mirror and see nothing, except "The pretty one."

Allergy Season AllergyTreatment

ACHOOOOOOO!

I don’t know about you but Allergies are among the same list as mosquitoes….what exactly is the purpose.  All they do is make your life miserable.  The solution….A SHOT!  Not just one shot, not just an occasional shot…..a shot every two weeks….oh and did I mention
FOR THREE YEARS!

According to WebMD
Mild allergy symptoms are rash, localized itching, congestion.
Moderate symptoms are widespread itching and difficult breathing
Severe:  “Anaphylaxis is a rare, life-threatening emergency in which the body's response to the allergen is sudden and affects the whole body. Allergy symptoms may within minutes progress to more serious symptoms, including:”
·         Itching of eyes or face
·         Varying degrees of swellings that can make breathing and swallowing difficult
·         Abdominal pain
·         Cramps
·         Vomiting
·         Diarrhea
·         Mental confusion or dizziness

Okay, comparing the symptoms against the shot…..the shot is needed but still hated!!!

According to Dr. Sutton, Premier Back Rehabilitation Center,  PC those who start their three-year series of weekly shots, ONLY 40% finish their treatment.  I can understand that as I would have a very difficult time getting WEEKLY shots.

So suffer or shot?

Now you don’t have to do either……Gotta Love Modern Medicine!!!  You can get your SHOT, in the form of a drop, under your tongue.  WOW, no needles?  Relieve Allergy Symptoms!
